Renewable Energy Awakens the AC/DC Battle
Edison (DC) and Tesla (AC) would have never guessed that mail could somehow contribute to their battle over electric current. Of course, we’re talking about email, smartphones, cloud computing and everything else driving the expansion of bandwidth and data centers. In a recent article carried by the Chicago Tribune, Reuters journalist Sara Ledwith presents a promising case for the eventual takeover of DC power.
The premise is that renewable energy sources produce DC power, and the back-and-forth AC/DC conversion creates heat and results in power loss. In the constant pursuit of efficiency, the last thing a leading-edge data center needs is more heat and wasted power. For more information, I recommend reading Sara Ledwith’s article here.
